Chapter 10

Summary: This article shows how religion plays a role in society and how people react to it. It can affect people in negative ways. As this article shows innocent Muslims are blamed for acts of terrorism just because of what they believe in. This is unfair to the people who are not extremist and are practicing the peaceful religion. It’s a stereotype that is unfair and makes people feel uncomfortable with who they are. It also doesn’t help when people tweet “Maybe most [Muslims are] peaceful, but until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible,” Rupert Murdoch tweeted after the 2015 terrorist attack in France. This tweet makes people see Muslims are terrorist when the majority are not and it is sad for those who hide their religion afraid of what people might do to them if they know what religion they practice.

Compare: I’m comparing this article to chapter ten. This article shows how religion can play a role in society and how it affects people. Sociologist study how religion affects people and groups of people and I think it’s very important this is shared. My friend who is Muslim does not want people to know because she is afraid what they would think. I believe it would be even harder to let people know In Ellensburg due to the small farming community who may believe Muslims are terririst. But my friend shows how peaceful this religion is and shows that the majority of people who practice it are not extremist. Religion shouldn’t affect people’s lives they should be able to practice there religion in peace but people don’t understand how to see past the bad and focus on the good in the people. This article shows a good point when they said “You wouldn’t blame all white people for the actions of Dylann Roof, who walked into a church in Charleston, South Carolina, and killed nine African-American worshippers. You wouldn’t blame all Christians for the meanness of the Westboro Baptist Church.”. I never heard of this till now but If we blame all people who are Muslims for being terrotist how do people not blame people for being extremist in Christianity.
